Zee Entertainment Enterprises net profit dipped 40 per cent for the second consecutive quarter to ₹45.6 crore in the quarter ending September owing to flat ad revenue growth and lower sales and services.
Company’s operating revenue grew 13 per cent annually to ₹2,224.6 crore led by subscription revenue. Meanwhile, profit attributable to shareholder stood at ₹47.8 crore. Sequentially too, profit fell 39 per cent and revenue grew 17 per cent. The EBITDA margin declined to 3.2 per cent.
“Despite the volatile geopolitical environment and macroeconomic headwinds that led to a subdued sentiment, Company’s entrepreneurial spirit, pioneering vision and prudent approach, enabled it to stay ahead of the curve. Zee 5’s revenues doubled, year-on-year, charting a strong growth trajectory. Multilingual entertainment offerings and global sports content have led to a healthy gain in the overall subscription revenues, with a 30 per cent increase, year-on-year. I am most certain that Zee 5 is now a well-poised growth lever for us, to garner maximum share of the attention economy,” said Punit Goenka, Chief Executive Officer.
On the digital business front, Zee reported an EBITDA of ₹41.6 crore with a revenue growth to ₹626 crore, excluding costs incurred by the business on ZEEL network. Around 34 shows and movies were released during the quarter including 9 originals.
No. 2 entertainment network
The company maintained its position as India’s No. 2 entertainment network, linear network shares at 20 per cent as of Week 24, making it our highest market share in the last seven years. Management mentioned that the industry is waiting for the measurement system to restart.
Domestic advertising revenue was flat as domestic revenue remained flat, aided by FIFA and marquee shows such as Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and other fresh launches. The company expects upcoming festive season to aid growth in ad revenue.
The company also announced the appointment of Sangeeta Shetty as the Chief Compliance Officer & Company Secretary to further enhance the company’s governance framework, regulatory compliances and shareholder engagement. Shetty will report to Goenka.
Commenting on the appointment, Goenka said, “At ‘Z’, strong governance and utmost levels of transparency across our operations form the bedrock of sustainable growth and stakeholder confidence. As we continue to execute our strategic priorities, it is imperative that we further enhance our regulatory and risk management capabilities. Sangeeta’s extensive experience and deep understanding of the regulatory and business landscape will be instrumental in strengthening the Company’s resilience and enhancing its institutional capabilities for the future. I would also like to thank Ashish Agarwal for his valuable contribution to the Company, and I wish him all the luck and success.”
